When Amerika’s noise became MUSIC!
Falling in love with the music at a young age 4, music became natural to her.Having her Late
Great Uncle Chester Grier Sr, who worked and composed music with the late great James Brown. He was the first to encourage her to sing a song and tell a story while you doing it. Sitting by the piano her Late great Uncle was the first to tell her that she was going to be a star. She has
memories of riding with her father and jamming to the Oldies in his pick up truck. The only place she could listen to secular music. Those drives still have a
warm place in her heart. Yet the memories also conflict with a strict up-
bringing. Amerika was raised in a home with a mother who as was a minis-
ter. Secular music was not allowed in the house. Despite her mother’s
beliefs, Amerika used every opportunity to teach herself to play the pi-
ano. A naturally gifted and vocally seasoned writer, her bright personali-
ty and fluid vocabulary helped her to rise above the obstacles. Her music
flourished even more when she learned to play the trumpet and percussion. She developed a range from soprano to tenor.
Amerika continued her endeavors.
Her persistence paid off. She never stopped working.
Amerika kept dreaming. Today her dream is her reality. From the age of 9, she remembers going to 54th and 10th Sony with her cousin Jeff sharing a room on the 2nd floor with Swizz Beats. Excited as kids despite all obstacles, Amerika’s first record place-
ment with her late cousin Jeff (Young Genius was debuted on Mariah Carey’s “The Emancipation of Mimi” album. The
track "Joy Ride". She went on to write and work with legend Teddy Riley on Jam 4.
